Honor Athletics Training Guide
Choose Your Rope. Build Your Rhythm. Train Like a Boxer.
Jump rope training rewards timing, patience and clean technique. This guide gives you the essentials without wasting your training time.
Boxers have used jump ropes for generations because the work is simple and honest. A rope can help develop rhythm, footwork, coordination and conditioning, but only when the equipment and technique match the athlete.
Which Jump Rope Should You Use?
There is no single rope for every training goal. Choose based on the skill you want to develop.
Speed Rope
Best for boxing footwork, fast cardio intervals and double-under practice. The lighter cable supports quicker rotations.

Stand on the centre of the rope with one foot and pull both handles upward. For most beginners, the cable connection points should reach approximately chest or armpit height.
The Four Rules of Clean Rope Work
Stay Low
Jump only high enough for the cable to pass beneath your feet.
Use Your Wrists
Create small rotations instead of swinging from the shoulders.
Relax Your Grip
Hold the handles firmly enough for control without creating tension.
A Practical 12-Minute Boxing Workout
Use this session two or three times per week. Beginners can pause when technique begins to break down.
- 0-2 minutes Warm-up: Easy basic bounce with relaxed shoulders and steady breathing.
- 2-5 minutes Boxer step: Shift your weight lightly from one foot to the other.
- 5-8 minutes Pace changes: Alternate 20 seconds fast with 40 seconds controlled.
- 8-10 minutes Footwork: Add small forward, backward and lateral movements.
- 10-12 minutes Strong finish: Maintain the fastest pace you can control without losing form.
